Casein Protein

What is Casein Protein

Casein protein, is predominantly found in milk and makes up around 80% of the protein contained in cows milk. The other 20% of protein found in cows milk is whey protein. To seperate the casein a non-chemical filter process is used.

Casein protein contains an impressive amino acid profile and casein is mostly used as a slow digesting protein.

Why should I use Casein Protein?

Because of its slow releasing properties casein protein is the only protein that you should be consuming just before you go to bed. During your sleep your body still needs to be sustained from the food you consumed during the daytime, if your body isn’t fuelled proporly then your muscle will be broken down and used as energy. That’s where

casein comes in handy, it is slowly released throughout the time your sleeping and therefore stops your body breaking down muscle tissue to use as energy. If you consume whey protein before going to sleep, it will do very little since whey is absorbed and processed by your body within an hour.

Just remember to be careful when choosing your whey, as with whey protein a lot of companies sell inferior products which have less casein protein and more whey protein. The best possible ratio is 80% casein and 20% whey, that ratio is the same as in milk.

How to consume

Casein protein comes in powdered form just like whey does and you can mix it with water or milk. We recommend to mix your casein protein with milk as your bedtime shake. This will add a little extra protein and a few extra calories to keep your body nutritionally sound throughout the night.
