Protein bars are an ideal solution if you’re a busy, active person. Taking a mixer and whey protein powder isn’t always convenient, so that’s where protein bars step in. A nutritious bar that contains quality protein with none of the hassle of having to mix a protein shake. So, the whole idea of protein bars is portability, easy and discreet to consume and most importantly to give you that much needed hit of protein. You can find a bigger range of protein bars here or if you prefer protein drinks.
At protein shake we’ve picked out the best bars for you and given them a rating out of 5, we’re judging them on:
- Protein content
- Bang for your buck
- Taste
First to step up to the plate is:
Maximuscles ProMax Meal Bar
Price: £19.99 for a box of 12, that’s £1.66 per bar.
Protein: 21g per 60g bar.
These bars are marketed as a meal replacement but with only 206 calories you would really need 2 to have these rather than a meal. However they have a pretty impressive 21g of protein which isn’t bad at all for a 60g bar. Altogether each bar contains 17g carbohydrates and 9.5 of those are sugars. I have to say though, the bars are very tasty and easy to eat, not too chewy and not too crumbly.
The price per bar is a bit on the expensive side but everyone knows you get what you pay for and these really are premium protein bars. The only downside in my eyes is the fact they’re only available in 2 flavours, chocolate and chocolate orange… if they’re going to stick with the chocolate theme i’d love to see a mint chocolate!

Reflex Pit Stop Bars
Price: £23.99 for a box of 12, that’s £1.99 per bar.
Protein: 35g per 80g bar.
The pit stop protein bars are simply immense. 35g protein in each bar, although they’re a bit chunky that’s a fair whack of protein and with only 1.9g of carbs! When i first read the ingredients list I thought this was a miracle bar. It contains whey protein and more impressively Micellar Casein. It even has a healthy dose of pro-biotics.
These may be even more expensive than the Maximuscle bars but quite rightly too. Yet another premium protein bar. I tried a batch of the chocolate mint bars, which tasted amazing, nice and soft and wasn’t too dry and the soy crisps gave it a nice crunch. I have however heard that the caramel flavour bars aren’t as nice so I’d recommend picking any flavour but the caramel ones.
